I am the principal of a school in Melbourne Victoria. I like to speak about significant topics, at times with a heavy dash of humour and inspiration. My passion is to train teachers and parents in how to work with each other for the holistic learning of all children and young adults. In working in partnership, we can achieve so much more for your children.

About

Yvonne Harvey BSc (Hons) QTS(Ex) - Deans award, PGDipSW (Melb), MEd (Melb) - Deans award

Yvonne Harvey is no stranger to the many changes that have occurred in education.  She has spent the last three decades observing, participating, learning, and now challenging herself and others to “never give up” in the advancement of themselves and most importantly of our young people. Yvonne is proud to see other brave, passionate, and giving educators continue their dedication to what she believes is one of society’s most important vocations.

Yvonne grew up in the UK attending a socio-disadvantaged school. She and her sister were the first in their family to attend University. Yvonne studied mathematics and gained the Dean’s award at Exeter University. She knew from a young age, given her own experiences, that she wanted to dedicate herself to the teaching of others in the wonderous area of maths.

It wasn’t long into her vocation that her passion for teaching started to develop into leadership. Her career has spanned from coordinator of A level mathematics to year level coordinator, to leading teacher of wellbeing and engagement, to assistant principal and now to principal. During this journey Yvonne completed her post graduate diploma in student wellbeing at Melbourne University. Yvonne began teaching secondary mathematics primarily at A level in the UK, in the UK she worked in a variety of schools in London, Brighton and one year at a military school. Since emigrating to Australia, she spent 15 years in a challenging, low socio-economic secondary state school in Werribee.

For the past 7 years Yvonne has been the principal of 2 independent primary schools. Her experience spans across all sectors. To refocus in primary education Yvonne has just completed her Masters in Evidence-Based Teaching also at Melbourne University.

Since becoming a principal her passion has moved into setting teachers up for success in their daily life. She is still obsessed with tracking data and helping teachers to work with information so it can direct them in improving individual student’s educational outcomes. More importantly her desire is to teach and help others to see what a wonderful and fulfilling profession teaching can be even on the difficult days.
